3D Screens for Cave Story 3D

I'm likely one of the few people left in the world who has yet to play Cave Story, so I'm looking forward NIS America's November release of Cave Story 3D on the 3DS. While I'm not a fan of 3D, as I feel it's often a gimmick, there are a couple 3DS games, such as Dead or Alive Dimensions and Ocarina of Time, where it's really worked well. Cave Story's environments appear to lend themselves to an interesting use of the technology at least.

That said, I'm more interested in the game for its Metroid-style gameplay and exploration than its use of 3D. All reports of those who have play this in any of its prior forms has had nothing but praise for it, so I'm in full support of this retail release.

Update (09/09/2011): Originally, NISA released screens that were supposed to highlight the 3D environments, but those screens did not work very well when transferred to the 3DS for viewing, so here are some general screens from the game.

  1. I'm another person who hasn't finished Cave Story, so I'm looking forward to this as well. I'm hoping the trend continues to stray away from the 3D as well. While it's a nice gimmick, I feel it's just that. I'd like some more strong titles to make get me to turn on my 3DS and this seems to fill that requirement.

Do you have any interest in the Aliens game for the DS? Seems to fall in the Metroid genre but with perma death. Color me at least intrigued.

  2. I agree about the 3D aspect of any console. I don't care about it at all. Movies, too, though I've yet to see one.

That said, I am up for interesting little games. I have Cave Story and Aliens: Infestation both pre-ordered on Amazon. I'll give a breakdown of each here.

  3. I'll be picking up Aliens: Infestation as well. Cave Story is something I'll probably try from Gamefly and decide if I want to purchase it from there.

I'll definitely look forward to your thoughts on both. It'll be nice to have someone I know (in the Internet sense) to discuss Aliens: Infestation with. Most people I know have stopped playing dedicated gaming portables in favor of iOS or Android stuff. I just can't get on that bandwagon totally.

  4. That's exactly why I started doing this. I much prefer the pocket console route over those of smartphones. I have tons of free or cheap iOS titles and just can't get into them. Gotta show my love and support somewhere, so this will be where and how I do it.
